San Clemente State Beach Sunsets:
A Cinematic Journey Through Light.
The sky caught fire and everything slowed down. The only sound was the ocean and the shutter.
There’s something sacred about golden hour in San Clemente. This shoot wasn’t planned. I grabbed my gear, followed the clouds, and landed here—on the cliffs overlooking State Beach, where palm trees frame the sea and time feels irrelevant.
As the sun dropped, the colors melted from gold to purple to flame. These are the frames I captured: unscripted, wild, honest.
Best Time to Shoot at San Clemente State Beach
Golden hour hits differently here. I aim for 30 minutes before sunset until 15 minutes after. This pocket gives you:
- Soft, directional light
- Glowing pink + orange clouds
- Backlit blooms and silhouettes
I use this same window for luxury wedding portraits, real estate exteriors, and fine art print captures.
My Favorite Sunset Vantage Points
San Clemente is a maze of coastal cliffs and flower-lined trails. For this series, I used three main vantage points:
- Calafia Bluff Overlook – Palm tree silhouettes + wide ocean expanse
- Bougainvillea Pathways – Framing the sunset through layered floral foregrounds
- Casa Romantica Cliffside – That cinematic Spanish architecture against skyfire
